Daily Prayers

Q65. What is the Evening Prayer?

In the evening when you go to bed, make the sign of the cross and say: In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Then say the Creed and the Lord's Prayer. You may also pray: "I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me safe today. I pray that you would forgive all my sins and keep me safe tonight. I place myself, my body and soul, and everything into your hands. Let your holy angel be with me, so that the devil may have no power over me. Amen."

Illustration

At the end of a long hike, you set your backpack down. The Evening Prayer is like setting down the weight of the day. You hand God your sins, your worries, and your body. He takes them all. You can close your eyes knowing that the one who does not sleep is watching over you.

Application

Pray the Evening Prayer together as a family before bedtime every night this week. Let the words "I place myself, my body and soul, and everything into your hands" be the last thing you say to God before sleep.
