Table of Duties

Q69. What does Scripture teach husbands and wives?

Husbands, love your wives the way Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her. Be thoughtful and treat your wives with respect. Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord, because the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church.

Illustration

Marriage is a vocation. That means God calls husbands and wives to serve each other the way Christ serves his church. A husband who loves his wife like Christ loves the church puts her needs above his own. A wife who respects her husband honors the calling God gave them both. Children get to see this love up close every day.

Application

Do one thing this week to serve your parents' marriage. It could be as small as setting the table without being asked or playing quietly when they need to talk. Your family is a place where God is at work through each person's calling.
