- 1
What does Jesus say will happen to the person who believes and is baptized?
- 2
Why does the second half of the verse say "whoever does not believe" rather than "whoever is not baptized"?
- 3
What does this tell us about the relationship between Baptism and faith?
Illustration
A rescue helicopter lowers a harness to someone in a flood. The harness saves them, but only when they are pulled into it. It would be foolish to say, "I do not need the harness. I will just believe I am saved." It would also be wrong to say the harness does nothing. God gives Baptism as a real rescue. Faith receives what Baptism delivers.
Application
Read Mark 16:16 together as a family. Talk about how Baptism and faith go together. If you have been baptized, thank God that he reached down to save you through water and his Word.
