Lord’s Day 25

Q67. Are God's Word and the sacraments both meant to point our faith to Christ's sacrifice on the cross as the only reason we are saved?

Yes! In the gospel the Holy Spirit teaches us, and through the sacraments he assures us, that our whole salvation rests on Christ's one sacrifice for us on the cross.

Scripture Proofs — King James Version

Illustration

If a friend told you "I saved you a seat," you would believe it. But if you walked in and saw a chair with your name taped on it, your confidence would grow even stronger. The Word tells us the promise. The sacraments show it to us so our confidence grows.

Application

This week, when you read or hear a Bible verse about what Jesus did for sinners, pause and thank God that he did not stop at words alone. He also gave signs to make his promises sure.
