Lord’s Day 38
Q103. What does God want from you in the fourth commandment?
First, that the preaching of the gospel and teaching about it continue, and that, especially on the day of rest, I regularly go to church to learn what God's Word teaches, to take part in the sacraments, to pray together with God's people, and to give offerings to help the poor. Second, that every day of my life I rest from my sinful ways, let God work in me through his Spirit, and so begin already in this life the eternal rest that is coming.

Illustration
After six days of school and homework, the weekend feels like a gift. God designed the Sabbath day as a gift too. He set aside time for his people to stop their regular work, gather together, hear his Word, and remember that their rest comes from him.
Application
This Sunday, go to church expecting to hear from God. Listen for one thing in the sermon or Scripture reading that you can tell your family about at lunch. Because God set apart this day, enter it with attention rather than distraction.
