The Sacrament of the Altar
Q61. What is the benefit of this eating and drinking?
The words "Given and shed for you for the forgiveness of sins" show us that through this sacrament we receive forgiveness of sins, life, and salvation. For where there is forgiveness of sins, there is also life and salvation.

Why do Christians need to keep receiving the Lord's Supper and not just go once?
Illustration
A doctor does not give medicine once and say, "You are set for life." You take it again and again because you keep needing it. Christians keep sinning and keep needing forgiveness. The Lord's Supper brings that forgiveness to you again and again, along with life and salvation. It is medicine for the soul that Christ gives as often as you need it.
Application
Talk with your parents about how often your church celebrates the Lord's Supper. Ask them why they go and what it means to them. Because forgiveness is given in this meal, it is a gift to receive often.
