Discussion Questions

  1. 1

What does "lead us not into temptation" mean if God himself does not tempt anyone?

  2. 2

Where does temptation come from according to the catechism?

  3. 3

What is a temptation you face often?

Illustration

A fish sees a worm dangling in the water and thinks it is a free meal. But there is a hook hidden inside. Temptation works the same way. The devil, the world, and our sinful nature make bad choices look appealing, but there is always a hook. This petition asks God to help us see the hook before we bite.

Application

Pick one temptation you face regularly. It might be lying to get out of trouble or being mean to a sibling. This week, when you feel that pull, stop and pray this petition out loud before you act. God promises to provide a way through every temptation.
