Lord’s Day 34
Q94. What does God require in the first commandment?
That I avoid and stay away from all idolatry, magic, and superstition, and prayer to saints or other created things. That I truly know the only true God, trust him alone, look to him for every good thing with a humble and patient heart, love him, fear (have deep awe and reverence for) him, and honor him with all my heart. In short, I would rather give up everything than go against his will in any way.

Illustration
A compass only works when its needle points to magnetic north. If a magnet nearby pulls the needle off course, you get lost. Your heart is like that compass. It was made to point to God alone. Anything else that pulls your trust away from him will send your life in the wrong direction.
Application
Write down one thing you tend to worry about. Then write next to it: "God is bigger than this." Pray each day this week, asking God to be the one you trust for every good thing you need.
